Jawanza Poland - Men's College Basketball Odds: Providence Friars vs South Florida Bulls

The South Florida Bulls needs to take care of business at home to build on its best Big East start, with five games against unranked teams left at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. The Bulls host Providence Friars in the first of two within 13 days against the struggling, but dangerous Friars.

South Florida has still yet to allow more than 70 points in a game, but suffered a 67-47 defeat at Marquette on Tuesday to snap a three-game winning streak. The Bulls lead the Big East in scoring defense, but will get a test against a Friars' team that has four players averaging in double figures.

Providence scores almost 70 points per contest overall, but has given up an average 81 in a three-game losing streak.

Justbet Sportsbook currently have the Bulls listed as 7-point favorites versus the Friars.

Providence Friars (12-9): The Friars have to play better defense. Providence is 14th in both scoring defense and field-goal percentage defense in Big East games and last in 3-point percentage defense. Opponents have made more than seven 3-pointers per game overall. Providence can put the ball in the basket. Vincent Council averages 16.7 points and 7.2 assists. Bryce Cotton averages 15 points and has a team-high seven games of 20 or more points. Freshman LaDontae Henton has also been solid, averaging 12.7 points and a team-best 9.0 rebounds.

South Florida Bulls (12-9): Taking out the overtime loss to Old Dominion early in the season, the Bulls have averaged less than 48 points in their other eight defeats. Leading scorer Jawanza Poland had only two points at Marquette. Toarlyn Fitzpatrick had 19 points and his fourth double-double of the season, but the rest of the team shot 30 percent. Victor Rudd has picked it up, averaging 12.3 points the last four games after being shut out at Notre Dame. The Bulls will have to be better with the ball after committing a season-high 22 turnovers at Marquette.

1. Henton has seven double-doubles, second all-time for a Providence rookie.

2. South Florida is outrebounding opponents by an average of 5.4 in Big East play, second best in the league.

3. Providence leads the series 6-4 after the teams split a pair last season.

BASKETBALL PREDICTION: Bulls 65, Friars 57.
