Justbet Sportsbook currently have the Golden Eagles listed as 6-point favorites versus the Friars.
Marquette Golden Eagles (15-4): The Golden Eagles' outside-inside combo of guard Darius Johnson-Odom (18.2 points) and senior forward Jae Crowder (16.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.2 steals) lead a balanced offense that is second in the Big East behind Syracuse in scoring (76.6 points) and leads the league in assists (17.4). Marquette is extremely disciplined considering its fast pace, ranking near the top of the conference in turnover margin (plus-3.8) and assist-turnover ratio (1.3). The Golden Eagles are 12-0 this season when junior point guard Junior Cadougan (5.4 assists) dishes out six or more assists.
Providence Friars (12-7): The Friars rank among the Big East leaders in several defensive categories, including blocked shots (5.6, third) and opponent field goal percentage (39.4, fourth). The offense - 12th in the conference at 69.3 points - has been unable to produce consistently despite four players scoring in double figures, led by junior point guard Vincent Council (16.4 points, 7.1 assists off the bench) and sophomore guard Gerard Coleman (14.8 points). Freshman forward LaDontae Henton is fourth in the league with 8.9 rebounds per game.
1. Marquette leads the series 10-4, with an 8-1 mark against the Friars since joining the Big East.
2. The Golden Eagles won both meetings last season by more than 20 points, but its last trip to Providence resulted in a narrow 82-79 victory in February 2010.
3. Providence sophomore guard Bryce Cotton leads the Big East in free-throw percentage (90.0) and minutes played (37.9).
BASKETBALL PREDICTION: Golden Eagles 73, Friars 69.
